The Music City Open presented by Lone Star Disc is taking place this weekend April 19 – April 21. Coverage has already started in the FPO division as I am writing this preview, but I have not seen scores as of yet. The MCO is being held once again at Mill Ridge in Nashville, Tennessee with FPO coverage starting at 9:00 am CT on Disc Golf Network and MPO coverage getting underway at 2:30 pm CT on Disc Golf Network. JomezPro will handle all of the post produced coverage available on YouTube the following day. Par for both divisions is 67, with the FPO total distance at 9,577 feet and MPO total distance sitting at a 11,059 feet.
Similar to last week at Jonesboro, the major changes on this course are going to be seen with the flow of the course. Holes have been rearranged that has altered the starting and finishing holes, but the holes themselves, with a couple of changes, are pretty similar to last year. Speaking of last year, in the FPO division, Kristin Tattar continued her hot streak, winning with a -7, five strokes ahead of the rest of the field. In MPO, Simon Lizotte was able to battle back to get his first win of last season and his first win as a member of Team MVP, shooting a -23 under, beating out Anthony Barela by one strokes and Calvin Heimburg, Gannon Buhr, and Chris Dickerson by two strokes. Chris Dickerson has won this event several times in the past, including when it was not a DGPT Event, with Mason Ford also winning this event in 2021. Missy Gannon and Hailey King have both won this event in recent years as well.
Looking at the stats from last year, I always like looking at Strokes Gained Tee to Green and landing in C1 in regulation. On the FPO side, Evalina Solonen, Holyn Handley, and Kristin were in the top 3 of SGT2G and C1 in regulation. In MPO, AB, Austin Turner, Simon, and Gannon were the top 4 in SGT2G. C1 in regulation saw Albert Tamm, Turner, Gannon, and Simon at the top.
So who will win this year? In FPO it’s hard not to run back the same 3 that were top in the field last year and were the podium positions last week. Without making this too complicated, I’m taking Kristin to win. She played too well last week and I think that continues this week as well. And speaking of a continued streak, let me take Holyn in second place. And even though she disappointed last week and Evalina has proven to be a solid pick this year, give me Missy in the 3 spot.
MPO gets tough. How can you pick against AB? He’s clearly playing the best golf right now and seems unbeatable. But realistically, this field is so stacked, seemingly so balanced, picking him again feels wrong. But, the guy hasn’t finished outside of the top 4 and finished second her last year. The only player really giving him a run this year has been Gannon week in and week out. And we saw Simon, who won her last year, give a great showing at Jonesboro last week. And of course, you have the likes of Ezra, Niklas Antilla, and Ricky all playing well this season. So where to go? In third position, I’m going to go with Niklas. We didn’t see him too much last week, but this course has a lot of OB, a lot of shots that need to be in control and I think Niklas has that in spades. In second, I’ll take AB. Second place again at MCO in a season that is just off to a crazy start. But lets go with Gannon to get back on top here in Nashville, and take home the win at the Music City Open 2024. Let it rip!
