Music City Open Recap

A fun tournament to watch, but this one lacked all of the drama that we have seen the first few months on tour. In both fields, FPO and MPO, we saw back to back champions take down the event. Kristin Tattar and Simon Lizotte going home with another sweet Gibson guitar, dominating the field on the final day to secure their victories. One thing that I have not been mentioning in my recaps has been the purses in the field for the tournament. At the 2024 MCO, the total purse was $81,850. Simon walked away with $10,000 for his 1st place finish and Kristin took home $5,500 for her victory.

Let’s talk a little bit about their victories. For Kristin, her only competition was Holyn Handley. Holyn played great rounds 1 and 2, shooting a -7 and a -3 respectively. Kristin did the opposite, going -3 in round 1 and -7 in round 2. Both shooting over 1000 rated on both days, tied at -10 going into the final day, looking like a great battle. And while it was a close battle to start out the day with Kristin bogeying two of the first three holes, Holyn was not able to take advantage and Kristin got hot. After those bogeys, she went six down over the next nine holes, while Holyn played even golf. and a double bogey on hole 16 really sunk her tournament, leading to Kristin walking it in at the end. She finished her round with another -3, while Holyn was at +1. 1012 rated final round for Kristin, and a 1017 tournament average. Just goes to show, to beat Kristin, you have to be shooting over 1000 rated every single round. Kristin is too consistent and will take advantage when her competition doesn’t play up to the top level. She’s on her way to that 1000 rating.

In MPO, it was a slightly different story. Simon held the lead in this tournament from end to end. -12 day 1, -8 day 2, -10 day 3. -30 on the event, 1065 event average rating, and was just so incredible consistent throughout the tournament. He only had one bogey in all three rounds, and led the field with fairway hits at 88%. He was tied for second in the field with 97% from C1X and fourth in the field in strokes gained from tee to green with 11.03. His putter was on, he wasn’t missing shots, he had some luck on his side. He just looked confident, even if he said his back was ailing him, he looked dominant, and looked so comfortable on this course. Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing Simon for a couple months as he and his wife are expecting their second child this Thursday. But what a way to go back home and celebrate a new baby with a huge win on tour. Congrats to Simon.

Not to be lost in the Simon success, Paul McBeth was back on top of the leaderboard finishing in second. Chris Dickerson doing what he does in Tennessee and taking third place, tied with Ricky Wysocki. And Jeremy Koling tied with Niklas Antilla in fifth place to round out or top competitors. The old guard showing what is still possible! Gives me hope!

The first major of the year for the both fields gets underway this Thursday, April 25th in Morton, Illinois. Northwood Black here we go, time to get into the most challenging woods track in the country and find out who can be the most consistent over the course of four days. Look for the preview tomorrow or Thursday morning!
