Off Weekend

Plenty of disc golf going on this weekend, but nothing that was happening on the Elite Series or in Europe. Instead, I played in a tournament myself and watched some coverage of some of the other tournaments going on around the country.

I watched the second round of the Cascade Challenge, a Q-Series event (Q for Qualifier) that had a lot of the top touring professionals participating. This was a Silver Series event last year and the only tournament that takes place in the state of Washington at Shelton Springs. I haven’t watched the final round, but Niklas Antilla absolutely blew away the field, winning by 10 strokes and really flexing some muscles. He shot a 1062 event rating and an insane 1092 (-14) first round. So impressive. And on the FPO side, Deann Carey ran away with this too, finishing at -12, seven shots clear of Raven Klein.

The tournaments that I did watch was the Cancer Playbook for Dogs Invitational at Hornings Hideout in North Plains, Oregon. I watch the second round coverage of this B-Tier event and I loved this course. It reminds of the the northeast disc golf that I am used to, but with bigger and more beautiful woods. It looked like an incredibly challenging, but fun course that I would love to play. This is actually Cole Redalen’s home course, and after matching the course record at -9 the first round, he shot a -7 second round for a total -16 and a 1056 event rating. He beat out Kevin Jones by 5 strokes, one of the few notable touring professionals also at this event. But I love watching coverage from GK Pro and Luke Humphries commentating, they do such a great job. I highly recommend watching.

And we are on to a big tournament this weekend, the Portland Open presented by Latitude 64. This is going to be a DGPT+ Event, starting on Thursday, May 30th and running through Sunday, June 2nd. There are two courses on the same property, Glendoveer East and Glendoveer West and I am excited to watch this one again this year. Even with another ball golf course, the trees and the setting here is just incredible. See you later this week for the preview.
