After 1 round in Portland, the leaders are there, with a couple of surprises out there too. In FPO, Ohn is in front after shooting a 1005 rated -7. She had zero OB strokes and is just putting incredible. She had the longest putting distance total on the day but about 90 feet. When you can putt like her, it makes the game easier. Kat Mertsch is in second at -6, Missy Gannon in third at -5, and five players at -3 including Paige Pierce. Paige definitely in the mix.
In MPO, Gannon Buhr shot the hot round with a -10, 1077 rated round. The surprise player, Drew Gibson, is in second at -8, a 1063 rated round. And then there are six players tied for third at -7, including Calvin Heimburg. Gannon was simply incredible yesterday, especially on the green. He was 9/9 from C1 and 5/6 from C2. His strokes gained from C2 was 3.97 and his strokes gained putting was 5.67. I was watching the JomezPro coverage, and the guys on coverage were commenting on how important C2 putting will be this weekend because of where the disc will land on a lot of these challenging holes, particularly the par 3s. For the first time this year, Drew is near the top of leaderboard after leading the field in C2 in regulation and distance putting. The putter was hot, but unlike Gannon, I don’t see that continuing and I would bet a new second place will be there after day 2. Looking forward to today. Let it rip!
