As I’m trying to write more and more about the sport, I got a chance to watch the GK Pro coverage of The Majestic. This is an A-Tier that sees so many pros come out and play and as Luke Humphries said on the coverage, probably the biggest A-Tier event of the year. The tournament is played at two courses, Airborn Disc Golf Hollows and the prestigious Blue Ribbon Pines. Back in 2019 when I caught the disc golf bug, I started watching all of the coverage that I could find. And I distinctly remember watching coverage at BRP and thinking this is my favorite course that I have ever seen. Something about the woods, the mulch around the basket, some iconic holes, it was so memorable for me. So getting to watch this back was awesome.
I only saw coverage for MPO, but let’s note that Ohn Scoggins won this on the FPO side with a -7, six shots clear of the leader and a 985 event rating. She took home $1,200. The MPO side battle was incredible. Watching Adam Hammes and Andrew Marwede battle this out was nothing short of incredible. Shot for shot, the two of them pulled away from everyone else over the final 10 holes and it was so fun to watch. Andrew did not miss a putt. Truly, his stroke is so pure, on the pole with every putt. Coming down to Hole 21, the final hole, Adam is up one stroke and misses the island and misses the drop zone putt. So for Andrew, he goes for the green, drills it, and then drills a circle edge putt for the win. Scintillating!!! BANG. Marwede finished at -41 with a 1064 event rating and shotting a -15 the final day for a 1075 rating. Adam finished at -40 with a 1057 event rating. There were no stats to really dive into, but Andrew said in his post round coverage that he only missed one C1X putt all weekend. And as I know, if you aren’t going to lead the field in some of the big throwing categories, you can still steal victory on the green, and that’s what Andrew did, walking away with $2,300. Total purse for this A-Tier was $38,785. Look for a preview of the Des Moines challenge coming up tomorrow. Happy 4th. Let it rip!
