What an excellent tournament to wrap up the European swing of the tour this year. The final tournament on the schedule was from Tallin, Estonia where the European Disc Golf Festival was held. The venue was immaculate, the crowds were incredible, and all I heard from the professionals on the course, was how this tournament made them feel like professionals. Good on Estonia for making that happen.
As for the disc golf, Missy Gannon beat out Evaliina Salonen in a one hole playoff to take home the victory and $4,248. Evaliina shot an incredible -8 on the final day (1007 rated) to tie Missy and send them to a playoff. But the comeback came up short as Missy birdied the playoff hole to seal the victory. Looking at the statistics, yet again we see the force that can come from Evaliina, as she led the field in strokes gained from tee to green with 21.26 strokes, 22% parked percentage, and 50% C1 in regulation. On the other side, Missy led the field with a 76% C2 in regulation and 85% fairway hits. You may be wondering, “where was Kristin?” Well she shot a 958 event rating and truly was never in this. Definitely a disappointing weekend for Kristin in her home country.
On the MPO side, what a weekend. First of all, Ricky shoots an INCREDIBLE 1119 rated first round, -16. Truly incredible to watch as he was simply incredible. He was impeccable off the tee and was dialed in on the green. If you have a chance, watch the highlights that DGN put, linked below.
On the final day, we had a classic between Ricky and Paul. Paul was able to shoot -8 on the front nine and closed the gap significantly to Ricky. And with a couple of bogeys from Ricky and bridies from Paul in the back, the players were separated by only a stroke heading into the final three holes. They matched pars on 16, with Ricky missing a C1X putt after Paul hit the band from distance. They both birdied on 17 with perfect drives. And on the final hole, in front of a huge crowd, both players were about 30 feet from the basket. With Paul up first, he confidently putts straight off the band, handing Ricky the opportunity to lay up for the victory. It was a classic battle, and awesome disc golf to watch.
Ricky led the field in strokes gained tee to green (19.61), C1 in regulation (63%), and C2 in regulation (83%). His event rating was 1073 with the total score of -32. Paul shot an incredible -12 on the final day, but it wasn’t enough to catch Ricky. And as a result, Ricky walked away with the victory, a very cool trophy, and $8,059. Heading back to the America, Ricky and Paul are both clicking, with less than a month until Worlds, and Ledgestone this weekend. Excited for the rest of 2024.
The total purse for this event was $63,243. Also, shoutout in general to MDG Media for their coverage in Europe. I loved the viewer experience and the commentary. Great work! Below are the final nine from the MPO field.
