I hope to have a video coming out soon that allows me to talk a little bit more about my putting practice, but I wanted to share a couple thoughts about putting.
I’m currently rated 980, fighting some injuries, so I have been focusing a lot of my time on the putting green. It is easily, the weakest part of the game. I find myself to be inconsistent and lack a level of confidence from 25 feet and beyond.
I focus on hitting at least 100 putts a day, divided into four distances with 25 putts from each. As a result, it gives me a percentage from each distance, as well as the total for the day. From 15 feet and 20 feet, I aim to be at 95% and above. From 25 feet, I want to get to the 90% mark, and from 30 feet, climbing to 80% would be great for right now. Below, you can see where I am currently at and how my focus really is on that 25 feet and 30 feet distance.
What has been frustrating for myself, is with all the practice, the improvements are tough to see. Overall, yes, I am a far better putter than where I was a year ago. But from month to month right now, I have not found the stroke that will elevate my game. As I reflect on my practice, there is one major improvement and that is consistency. I used to do this with my baseball stance, but I am constantly adjusting. My stance, stroke, pull back, anything, and it is the worst for improvement because there is no continuity. Without continuity, it is impossible to expect results. So as I continue to work, I am reminding myself to stay the course. Consistency is huge to be successful in this sport, and you have to commit to that, even when things feel like they are going wrong. Let it rip!
