Gannon Buhr and Holyn Handley Cruise to Victories

Another incredible weekend on the DGPT where we witnessed two dominant victories by two of the top players in their respective divisions. Gannon Buhr flexed his muscles and showed why he is the number one player in the world. He almost went end to end on the weekend, finishing at -38 for the weekend, averaging 1069 for the event, and taking home $15,000. What impresses me so much about Gannon is how in control he looks on the course. Physically, Gannon makes the game look so easy. His form is impeccable and is able to control the disc using little effort. And on the putting green, he has the confidence from what seems like 100 feet out. His arsenal was on display again this weekend, and it is no surprise he took home the victory.

On the stat side, Gannon only led in one area, 10.21 strokes gained putting. He was second to Calvin Heimburg in C1 in Regulation, shooting 57% and was third behind Calvin and Chris Dickerson in strokes gained tee to green. But being in the top 3 in those three categories, in my research, is the recipe for success. Gannon proved it again this weekend, and at this point, it would be surprising if it does not continue heading into Idlewild and Worlds.

Similar to Gannon, Holyn Handley nearly led the tournament from start to finish on the way to her victory and second pro tour victory of the season. Holyn too won by a seven stroke margin, averaging a 1001 rating for the event, that included a 1003 rated final round, which helped her cash out with the $9,000 1st place prize.

Holyn dominated this weekend, finishing in first in nearly every major statistical category. Strokes gained tee to green she led the field with 19.23 strokes gained, about 3 more strokes than second place. She was first in C1 in regulation with a 49% mark, and was in the top five for C1X putting, knocking down 86% of her puts in the circle. That combination is going to win almost every time. Holyn did incredible executing her gameplan at Sunset Hills. She went out there and took this event. Congrats.
