The Disc Golf World Championships are underway today, August 21st and run through Sunday, August 25th in Lynchburg, Virginia. Utilizing two courses, New London Tech Disc Golf Course and Ivy Hill Disc Golf Course, the five round tournament will determine the World Champion in both the FPO and MPO divisions. Wednesday and Friday will be played at New London with Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday being played at Ivy Hill.
I’ve watched a ton of practice rounds this week, both at Ivy and New London. I know New London pretty well already thanks to Foundation Disc Golf coverage and content at that course, but Ivy Hill was brand new to me. I caught up through Ezra Aderhold and Aaron Gossage practice rounds, as well as OTB Skins from GK Pro. Both courses are absolute beast. Technical woods at New London and long, elevated, exact golf at Ivy Hill. OB is everywhere and it is really going to take the most consistent player to win this event.
Now, FPO has already finished today, but I do not yet know scores. But to be honest, there was no way that I was not going to pick Kristin Tattar to win. Consistency is key and I think over the five rounds, she can put it together. In second, I’m going to take Holyn Handley because I think she is the other player that his been very consistent this year and has the power to succeed at both courses. Finally, in third, I am going to take Evaliina Salonen. Its going to be a throwers weekend and if she can put, just a little, she will be up there.
On the MPO side, there are a lot of names running through my head. I want to pick Calvin because I am simply rooting for him to win. But I am not confident in it. I would love for Ricky to win another Worlds, or Paul to win another, but again, not super confident. Gannon is the obvious choice and watching him play, putt, throw, I think back to the consistency mark and it is so hard to pick against him. Does AB show up? Do the Robinson brothers make a run? Chris Dickerson in the woods? Kyle Klein? I don’t know. I’m going to take a stab at a player that I think rarely takes missteps during a weekend and has the consistency throughout the game to make it work. Give me Ricky Wysocki to win his third World Title. I will take Gannon in second, and Chris Dickerson in third. Let it rip!
